Softball takes winning streak into the twenties
The Saint softball team continued its late-season mastery of the Southern Region in the last week with four more victories, extending its winning streak to 21 games.
The Saints first took on Clark College last Friday at home, winning both games by huge margins. In the first game, sophomore Chanie Norbury and freshman Kristin Anderson both hit homeruns to help lead the team to an 8-0 victory. Freshman pitcher Brittany McArthur picked up her eighth win of the season. In the second game, the Saints’ bats came even more alive as sophomores Kathy Cox, Jayme McBride and Norbury all got homeruns in the bottom fourth inning. The Saints trampled the Penguins 17-1. Freshman pitcher Lauren Hadenfeld earned her 14th win of the season.
The next day the Saints hit the road to take on the Southwestern Oregon Community College Lakers in Coos Bay. Norbury hit her 13th homerun in the Saints’ victory in the first game, a 9-3 victory. Hadenfeld picked another win, her15th of the season, to go along with her 1.31 ERA (earned run average). The second game was closer but the Saints still came out on top, 4-3. Freshman pitcher Ashley Valentine picked up her eighth win of the season. Valentine is 6-1 with a 2.03 ERA.
