A computer that was used to issue photo IDs was stolen from MHCC’s Maywood Park Campus Sept. 8.

The data stored on the computer contained information from 1995 through 2005 including the names, birthdates and MHCC identification numbers of former students.

According to the Oregon Identity Theft Protection Act of 2007, the information that was stored on the computer does not constitute personal information.

The act defines personal information as a consumer’s name in combination with a Social Security Number, an Oregon drivers license or Oregon identification card number, or a financial, credit, or debit card number (along with a security code or password) that would allow someone to access a consumer’s financial account.

Since 2005, there has only been one other robbery at MHCC and eight burglaries, according to the MHCC website.

Initial findings from the Maywood investigation indicate that this was an isolated incident.

Chief Operating Officer Michael Wolfe sent out an email that confirmed the computer was stolen.

Wolfe wrote in his email that ‘the college is reviewing its data security processes and procedures throughout the institution to ensure this situation never happens again.’

The press release said MHCC took out ads in the Oregonian and the Gresham Outlook to inform affected individuals about the situation.
