Orchestra to play at MHCC

The Portland Columbia Symphony Orchestra will play a concert 3 p.m. Sunday at the MHCC College Theater.

This will be the orchestra’s second show in their 2009–2010 season, most of which will continue to be hosted at MHCC.

The show will feature “Piano Concerto No. 4 in G major” by Beethoven, followed by “Symphony No. 2 in D Major” by Sibelius. Playing the concerto will be Pacific Northwest native pianist Barbara Roberts.

The Portland Columbia Symphony Orchestra is a non-profit service organization founded by Jerry Leudders at Lewis and Clark College. The orchestra is composed of local and regional musicians of both professional and semi-professional stature.

After its creation, the orchestra was led for 14 years by PSU professor John Traudeau. Since 2000, the role of music director and conductor has belonged to Huw Edwards.

Edwards, born in South Wales in the United Kingdom, has studied music at the University of Surrey in England and Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas. He is currently music director for Olympia Symphony Orchestra in Washington in addition to his position with the Portland
