Free flu shots available in East County
Free flu shots are available Nov. 13 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. for the first 100 adults and first 30 children 3 years and older at Snow-Cap Community Charities, 17805 SE Stark St. in Portland.
Sygielski wants to speak to students
MHCC President John Sygielski is inviting students to meet with him on Monday, Nov. 3, from 5 to 6 p.m. and/or Monday, Nov. 10, at noon to discuss the college vision and strategies. Both meeting will be in Jazz Café.
He said student input is “invaluable as we review the progress of the development of the development of the strategic plan and ensure the College is moving in the right direction” and addressing the issues identified during the listening tours he has conducted in the area.
12- Step Support Group meets Thursdays
A 12-step Support Group will meet each Thursday at MHCC during the fall term noon to 12:50 p.m. in Room 1253. This group is for anyone who thinks they may have an alcohol or drug problem. Individuals who are required to go to a 12-step meeting can also get their court slip signed at the meeting.

Free child care available for students
MHCC offers free childcare for 3- to 5-year-olds. The student must be taking a minimum of nine credits or equivalent (preference to full time students), must be low-income eligible, and must live in Multnomah County. The care is offered for free. Donate your old cell phones
Portland Women’s Crisis Line recycles cell phones and distributes them to survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault. Survivors are able to use these cell phones to call 911, allowing immediate help at touch of a button. Bring your old cell phone with the battery and charge to Rho Theta office in the College Center. This is tax deductible.
Transfer information to offer Portland universities
Portland State University representatives will be in the College Center Nov. 6 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Concordia University representatives will visit Nov. 18 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Japanese jazz flutist to perform in Portland
John Kaizan Neptune and band will share his talent with the Japanese bamboo flute in a performance of jazz Nov.13 at 7:30 p.m. at The Old Church on 1422 SW 11 Ave. in Portland. All seats are general admission. An advance ticket costs $20; tickets will be available at the door for $25.00. Tickets can also be purchased though www.pdx.net/jaso. ASG plans Election Day celebration
The Associated Student Government will host an Election Day event including unofficial ballot drop-off site, non-partisan ballot measure information, live music from singer/songwriter Dan Torres, free snacks, Election Day media coverage and information on upcoming ASG/SAB events and programs. The event is Tuesday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the College Center.
Blood pressure checks available on campus
Get your blood pressure checked by a MHCC nursing student Tuesday in College Center and Nov.18 in Vista Dining Hall from 9:30 a.m. to 2:15 p.m.
Power outage hits campus Monday
According to Jeff Hart, a system administrator and programmer/analyst, the college experienced a campus-wide Internet access outage Monday morning. Both inbound and outbound internet traffic was affected. Staff resolved the problem within two hours.
Domestic violence presentations postponed
The domestic violence presentations schedule for this week have been postponed, and will be rescheduled soon, according to organizer Chris Gorsek. He said he will be unable to take any donations for the Bradley Angle House or work on the cell phone drive until Nov. 3. Gorsek apologized for the inconvenience.
Winter quarter schedule now available online
An online version of the college’s winter term schedule for 2009 is now available. Printed versions of the course schedule will be distributed and mailed throughout the service district Nov. 24.
Children’s Theater production approaching
This years Children’s Theater production is “Magic Theater,” a play geared for students in kindergarten through third grade but also enjoyed by adults.
Prearranged school performances will take place at 10:30 a.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from Nov. 10 through Nov. 21. There will also be a 2 p.m. showing Saturday, Nov. 22, for the general public. Tickets are $2 per person. Early registration is encouraged for school groups. Drop off your unmailed ballots
With Election Day on Tuesday, registered voters who have not yet mailed their ballots may run the risk of the ballot not reaching their county elections office in time. To combat this, voters are encouraged to drop their ballots at an official drop site. Sites include post offices, libraries and banks, as well as various other places.
