Fair to showcase clubs

Chelsea Van Baalen

The MHCC Club Fair will kick off Monday in the College Center and, according to Associated Student Government President Bradley Best, more clubs will get the chance to be noticed this term.

“This time around we’re going to do a lot of tabling so all the clubs will be represented,” Best said, adding that the fair is a three-day event.

Best said that aside from clubs, there will also be food and music at the event, as well as “some outside vendors with an educational aspect.”

“Club Fair is to get more awareness to students about club involvement and what clubs do on campus,” Best said.“The ultimate outcome is to see the club sizes grow even more.”

Best said that when he was a member of the Math Club two years ago, he saw the benefits of the Club Fair firsthand.

“We gained more members,” Best said after he and club members ran a table at the event.

Best also hopes new students will benefit from attending the Club Fair.

“We have new students who don’t know much about resources, events, what other students take part in,” he said.

James Dezellem, ASG’s director of communications, said, “I would just love see people start their own clubs,” adding that clubs give students a way to “get connected with other people who share the same passions.”

Best added that students will have more options since new clubs have been formed. “We just added five from spring term to now,” he said.

These clubs include the Environmental Justice Club, the Black Student Union, the Ski Club, House of Pain and R.I.C.E. (Remarkable Islander Causing Excitement Club.)

Best hopes more clubs will be started as a result of the Club Fair. “They generate a positive environment,” he said.
