Flu shots available in East County

Flu season is around the corner. To get information about where to get a flu shot, students, faculty and staff can go to www.getaflushot.com, or www.findaflushot.com/lungusa to find a clinic locator. If you are an MHCC employee with health-benefits, many clinics in the local area will accept your ODS insurance for flu-shot payment. One session left for MHCC blood pressure checks

Nov. 18 will be the last day this term to do blood pressure checks on the Gresham campus. The blood pressure checks will be provided in Vista Dining Center from 9:30 a.m. to 2:15 p.m.

MHCC Transitions program seeking eligible students

The Transitions Program is recruiting single parents, displaced homemakers, minority and immigrant women for winter 2009. Women who need guidance and support to prepare for college, or improve their college success skills are encouraged to attend. The first irst session starts Nov. 12, 10 a.m. until 12 p.m. located in the board room next to the president’s office on the second floor of the academic center (room 2359). Perceptions is seeking submissions for 2009 edition

Perceptions Magazine is asking for submissions in genres including poetry, creative non-fiction, fiction, visual art, photography, music and film. Submissions will be judged and top entries will win a $100 final prize. There is no entry fee. College group sponsors food drive

Mental health and human services is running a food drive through Nov. 21. Please bring non-perishable food items to the Allied Health lobby between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. All proceeds go to Snow-CAP and Barney’s Pantry.

Read for Fun group meets each Monday

Political science and business instructor Janet Campbell has started the “Read for Fun” group. Meetings are every Monday in Room 2553 from 12:10 to 1 p.m. The group will meet six times per term to discuss personal reflections on the chosen reading material. Literacy tutors needed on campus

Literacy tutors are needed for MHCC’s Adult Basic Education’s Volunteer Literacy Tutor Program. Tutors will be trained to work with adults that read at or below 6th grade level. MHCC is offering free workshops for those who wish to volunteer to become a tutor. Tutors are required to have a high school diploma or GED, a willingness to help others and a commitment to the ABEs Volunteer Literacy program. MHCC items available through bookstore

You may have noticed something new about the book store-the selection of MHCC themed clothing. The MHCC bookstore began selling apparel last year in an attempt to increase school spirit, but due to staffing issues was not able to offer the full line of clothing to students. Today is deadline for foundation scholarships

Friday, Nov. 7, is the last day to turn in applications for the MHCC Foundation Scholarships. The scholarships are open to MHCC students who will be attending in winter quarter. The applications are available online at www.MHCC.edu/pages/383.asp and in the Financial Aid Office.

Gamers Club Super Game Day set for Wednesday

The Gamers Club is hosting a Gamers Club Super Game Day, Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Jazz Café (AC2059).

Winter enrollment to begin Nov. 24

Students who have earned 46 or more credit hours at MHCC can register as early as Nov. 24 at 12:01 a.m; registration begins the next day on Nov. 25 at 12:01 a.m. for students that have earned less than 45 credit hours.
