Valentine’s Day: movies for when you’re . . .
...Single
“Harold and Maude”
What happens when a 20-year-old male (Bud Cort) obsessed with death meets a 79-year-old woman (Ruth Gordon) with a passion for life? Well, love, of course. A little more morbid than your average romantic film, Hal Ashby’s “Harold and Maude” weaves fantastic dark humor and a love that shockingly makes sense. “Harold and Maude” has the ability to lead viewers to question their perceptions and how they let a significant other affect their life
“Annie Hall”
Poor Woody Allen never gets anyone in the end . . . ever. This is true again for “Annie Hall,” the story of a neurotic man, Alvy Singer (Allen), and his care-free, singing lover Annie Hall (Diane Keaton). When you have a couple with more irreconcilable differences than oil and water, it can go unsaid that things won’t be pretty at the end. However, viewers will quickly learn that it’s not the ending that counts, but the comedic journey there.
...Dating
“Dead Silence”
From the directors of “Saw,” this film will have you two holding each other tight and not screaming. Based on the legend of Mary Shaw one must never, ever scream. In this silently scary film starring Ryan Kwanten, Amber Valletta, and Donnie Wahlberg, the story of the small town of Ravens Fair is plagued by horrible deaths and it’s up to a local widowed man to unravel the not-so-fictional legend.
“The Covenant”
This story of four very attractive students at the Spencer Academy with secret powers have to band together to keep their secret from being exposed when a fellow student is murdered. The suspense and flashing scary images will bring any couple closer together on the couch. Starring Steven Strait of “300” and “Sky High,” he steals the show and captures the heart and mind of the viewer. “The Covenant” is sure to keep couples within arms reach.
...Married
“Hitch”
This movie is a great dating movie, with the ever-so-charming Will Smith playing a date-doctor Alex “Hitch” Hitchens. The movie is laugh-out-loud funny. Keep in mind, nothing makes your man seem more attractive than watching Smith, with a swollen face, try to hit on the gorgeous Eva Mendes. Kevin James, who plays the lovable loser Albert Brenneman in this movie, does a great job of making every other guy in the world seem amazing.
“40 days and 40 nights”
What do guys like better than sex? Seeing a guy who is trying not to have sex struggle. Matt Sullivan (Josh Hartnett) takes a vow to stay celibate for 40 days and 40 nights (for Lent) after a tough break-up.
His friends try all sorts of things to make this hard as possible for him. Meanwhile, Sullivan finds himself falling in love with Shannyn Sossamon. The movie is both funny and romantic.
