Research chief to take interim reins in library

Nancy Szofran, the MHCC director of research and planning, will assume the role of interim library director starting June 1.
The decision was made after several months of discussion with the library staff as to the needs of the library, according to an all staff e-mail sent out earlier this month.
The library position, left vacant after the retirement of Dean of Information Resources Jan Marie Fortier-Calbaum, will primarily be to “assess the climate and environment within the library and make recommendations on how we should proceed before recruiting for the full-time library director position,” according to the e-mail from MHCC president John Sygielski.
“I’m excited,” said librarian Anna Johnson about the decision. “It’s great to get someone who is familiar with Mt. Hood and the direction the library is going in.”
Szofran will serve until the end of fall term 2009, when a full-time replacement is expected to be named.
