Time to look on the bright side

Summer sunshine is in the air and school is almost over and done with for the summer. And for me, like the famous Thin Lizzy song says, “The boys are back in town.” It’s time to reunite with the good ol’ boys.

It’s time to live it up for a change and to forget about fall, winter and spring terms and focus on the three-month break that lies ahead of us (minus us summer school folks). Oh, I almost forgot that bad word: finals.

There hasn’t been a day in the last year that I haven’t heard the same crap over and over again: “There are no jobs out there,” “School is a waste of time,” “I have no money”, “My relationship sucks” and many more similar phrases moaning about the negatives in life. I understand fully that everyone struggles and that life isn’t easy. News flash: It isn’t ever going to be easy. When is enough, enough?
Why not think about the positives in life for a change? Think about the fact that we have the chance to go to school and receive an education and create baby steps toward our future, whatever it might be.

There is no American dream like there once was; it’s seems for many it is all about money, money, money!

What happened to picnics, family gatherings, BBQs and other fun events? Christ (forgive me God)! A good old game of kickball never hurt anybody. There isn’t a single thing we can do nowadays without spending money. The jobs that were once there don’t exist or are quickly vanishing.

Instead of drinking our sorrows away lets find ways to cope with these issues of lost jobs and these painful times.

For instance, making the most of what we’ve got. Creating positive environments for one another. There is so much negativity in this world and I am guilty as charged and ready to move forward. Why follow the “negative Nancys” in life?

Recently on campus there has been constant discussion about the “H” words: hate and harassment, something that may never go away. But why not strive to make a difference and to stand for what is right. No one is ever going to completely agree or get along, that’s life. But that doesn’t mean we can’t all try to strive to better ourselves.

Be kind. Be caring. Be considerate. Be respectful. Be yourself! Make changes toward the right direction. It’s easy to love the ones we already love, but it’s better to love the ones that we don’t already love.
Seeing that this economic recession might not go away for a while, we should start taking care of each other and others around us. A friendly hello or how are you is a starting point.
