Family Fun Festival comes to campus Saturday

The MHCC Family Fun Festival will be held Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. During the event there will activities for children, such as a dinosaur egg hunt, face painting and ring toss game. There will be a performance by the Ballet Papalotl Dancing Group, refreshments and a raffle. Departments collaborate for Oregon Shakespeare Festival

The MHCC Humanities division and Community Education Department have partnered to offer two ways to experience the Oregon Shakespeare Festival. There is an eight-week, online summer class titled “Intro to Literature, Drama,” for four humanities credits, which will also include a three-day field trip to the Oregon Shakespeare Festival in Ashland. The cost for this class includes tuition, a $20 distance-learning fee, a $230 fee that covers tickets to the plays and two-night, double occupancy lodging in Ashland. It is possible for students to opt-out of the three-day field trip. In addition, the MHCC Community Education Department is offering a non-credit Ashland-only option called “Oregon Shakespeare Festival Trip,” that includes tickets to the plays, a backstage tour and lecture as offered in the credit class. The cost is $230 plus the $19 MHCC Community Education fee. For more information, call 503-491-7018 or 503-491-7572.

 

Registration continues for summer and fall

Registration for fall and summer classes is open both online and at the registration office. Summer courses will start June 22 and fall term will begin Sept. 21. The class schedules for both terms are available online at http://www.mhcc.edu/schedule

 

Swim center to host Howard Jones invitational

The aquatic center is hosting the Howard Jones Invitational from June 18 to June 21. All pools will be closed to the public starting at noon, June 18.

 

Harry Potter to be played at Dive-in movie

The Aquatic Center is showing “Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix” on June 26 on the full-color scoreboard as one of the “dine-in” movies shown throughout the year. The movie is shown during Community Family Swim between 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. Admission is $4.50 for adults, $3.25 for children and seniors and $10 for a family.

 

Sign-up begins for MHCC summer camp

Registration has started for the MHCC Summer Camp for Kids. The camps are age and ability appropriate, encouraging each child to participate, interact, learn and play. College offers study abroad programs in Mexico

An MHCC study abroad summer program starts June 27 when students will leave for San Miguel de Allende in Mexico. The students will remain there until July 11. For more information about this program, contact Wally Shriner at walter.shriner@mhcc.edu. The same day, students will leave for a field biology and Spanish trip to Costa Rica. The students will return to the states July 27. For more information about this program, contact David Wright at wrightd@mhcc.edu. Wright is also in charge of the Spanish Immersion study in Guanajuato, Mexico, which will last from July 13 to July 27 and a study abroad program fall term that will take place in Florence, Italy. The application deadline for the study abroad program in Florence, Italy is June 5 and the actual program will be from Sept. 25 to Dec. 12. Students will leave for Kyoto, Japan on June 29 and will return on July 20. For more information, contact Yoko Sato at duncan.s@comcast.net. The application deadline for a three-week Italian immersion program in Perugia, Italy is July 25. The program will last from Aug. 29 to Sept. 19. Bookstore to buy books

The MHCC bookstore has a textbook buyback between June 8 and 12 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. A student ID is required for the buyback.
