The new student experience

Welcome Week at MHCC has new students feeling relaxed and at ease through the transition into college life, according to freshman music major Brandan Chinburg.
“It’s less stressful from class to class. It’s laid back,” he said.
As far as helping students adjust, MHCC’s Welcome Week “helped us find our classes, key offices and showed us where to park,” said Steve Keeney, also a new student to MHCC.
Keeney likes MHCC because “it’s very diverse, it’s local and they have a lot of programs that let you feel around for what you want.”
Irina Pitsul likes MHCC because “it’s just right, it’s not too big, or too small. I like it.”
“I like that my teachers are really chill, they’re not intimidating and I learn from them,” Pitsul said.
Orientation, which was on Sept. 15 was also a huge help for new students to MHCC. “They helped us with a lot of things that we would not know on the first day,” Pitsul said. “I loved at the orientation (how) we got free food,” she added.
Why choose MHCC over other colleges or universities?
“They have a really solid (music) program,” said Chinburg. “The instructors are great. It’s better than a lot of other schools.”
“It’s local,” said Keeney.
“It is closest to my house and all my siblings have gone here and said it’s amazing, so I took their word for it,” said Pitsul.
