Bookstore takes over operation of coffeeshop

The MHCC Bookstore has bought the equipment and taken over the coffee shop formerly known as M&K Caffe.

Mavis Bassitt was the co-owner of the M&K Caffe for 17 years and said their contract ended in August and they decided not to renew. “They have hired me to manage the espresso bar and my business partner Kathy has retired,” said Bassitt.

At the coffee shop, you can now pay for food, beverages, snacks, and pop from the bookstore, but not books.

According to Bassitt, the prices are the same, the drinks are the same, and they are using the same vendors and same coffee companies.

“There are new girls working here, that’s a change, and I don’t own it anymore,” Bassitt said.

The hours are now longer: 7:45 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

“Come on down. Come on over and buy a drink,” said Bassitt.
