The Mt. Hood Community College music department will be showcasing the term’s musical efforts in the End of Term Concert Wednesday night.
“It should be very, very high quality,” said Susie Jones. “The students are highly skilled, highly trained, and put a lot of effort into their music.
“It’s the more classical side to our program.”
The event will include the musical talents of MHCC’s Symphonic Band, orchestra, and symphonic choir, over 80 students according to Jones.
“It’s a little more serious [than our jazz performance],” said trombonist JJ Meyer. “With the classical, to me, with each piece the mood changes so much, like if it’s a dark piece you feel dark, and if it’s a happy little march, you feel upbeat.”
“Each song is a full story,” added sophomore trombonist Spencer Didlake.
According to Jones, this type of event doesn’t normally draw large crowds, prompting a few band members to offer reasons to attend.
“You can hear good music right at school, you know you don’t have to go somewhere else, like downtown,” said Meyer.
“Plus it’s free!” said Didlake.
The event will be held in the College Theater at 7:30 p.m. and admission is free.
