A Student Senate position and a Student Activities Board position recently opened with the resignations of Senator Pro Tempore Joshua Ray and SAB Sports Coordinator Mike Smith.
According to Stephen Floyd, senator of industrial technology and chair of the membership committee, “No official reason was given” in the case of Ray’s resignation, but he said Smith left SAB because he is wants “to take the Dog Pound and turn it into a club so he can focus more of his time on that.”
The Dog Pound is a group of students who cheer on MHCC teams at athletic events and work to gather more awareness and student turnout at Saints games.
According to Floyd, Smith put in his resignation “two Fridays ago” and Ray resigned two weeks ago today.
Bethany Peterman has already been chosen to fill the Pro Tempore position in the Senate, but her former Senate position still needs to be filled.
Applications for the position are being accepted until today at 5 p.m. Applications to fill the SAB position will be accepted until March 10 at 5 p.m.
Both applications are available at the front desk in the College Center.
Floyd said it is not unusual for positions to be vacated and filled this late in the academic year.
“It’s always a learning experience,” he said. “You learn how much you are willing to dedicate and sometimes you realize how much you’ve had to sacrifice like school work and your personal life,” he said. “If it means you have to resign completely, it’s not a decision you come to lightly, but it’s all part of the learning experience involved.”
For more information on how to apply for the two open positions, contact the College Center staff at 503-491-7277.t no matter what people’s views are.”
