COMMENCEMENT 2020: BEST OF LUCK TO MHCC GRADUATES

Web Graphic

Graduation day is approaching and it’s time to extend thanks and good wishes to those who
may be departing MHCC.

Special thanks to instructors and staff who may not be returning: Thank you for making
attendance at MHCC a wonderful journey.

To the graduates, may you find strength in the knowledge of your great accomplishments and continue in your journeys with peace along the way and fortitude to endure.

We do not know what will become of us. COVID 19 has left many plans up in the air.

A little rock ’n roll may satisfy our souls: First released in 1970, “Brotherhood of Man –
United We Stand, Divided We Fall” was written by Tony Hiller and Peter Simons. It was a 1970 hit on the charts and may easily be found on YouTube.

Also, the following verse from Ecclesiates 3: 1-8 was quoted in my high school yearbook and
is fondly remembered.

This version is from the Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB), copyrights 1999-2009.

“The Mystery of Time”

There is an occasion for everything,
and a time for every activity
under heaven:

A time to give birth and a time
to die;

A time to plant and a time to uproot;

A time to kill and a time to
heal;

A time to tear down and a
time to build;

A time to weep and a time to
laugh;

A time to mourn and a time to
dance;

A time to throw stones and a
time to gather stones;

A time to embrace and a time
to avoid embracing;

A time to search and a time to
count as lost;

A time to keep and a time to
throw away;

A time to tear and a time to
sew;

A time to be silent and a time
to speak;
A time to love and a time to
hate;

A time for war and a time for
peace.

On a personal note, I wish the best of luck and give many thanks to two fine advisers, whom I can’t thank enough: The Advocate’s faculty advisers, Daniel Ernst and Howard Buck.

Best wishes also to The Advocate’s departing Editor-in-Chief, Chloe Collins; its photo editor, Maysee Thao, and graphic designer, Eli Rankin, and to others.

It’s been a pleasure of short duration, (and time cut short), meeting and working with so many intelligent young people. You are each uniquely gifted.

To all: May you be blessed with happiness.
