ISLE OF ARMOR: POKEMON’S FIRST EXPANSION

On June 17, Game Freak released the first-ever Pokémon expansion for “Pokémon Sword” and “Pokémon Shield” on the Nintendo Switch. This expansion was the “Isle of Armor,” and it is Pokemon’s first DLC.
In the past, when Pokémon wanted to introduce new content, its creators usually released a third game. These games are Pokémon Yellow, Crystal, Emerald, Platinum, Black 2, and White 2. However, the Isle of Armor is more than just a third installment game in the series.

To explain what made this DLC so great, you need to understand where Pokémon Sword and Shield first started. When Sword and Shield were in early development, the team announced that not all previous Pokémon would appear in the games, which caused major controversy in the Pokémon community. There was a whole campaign on “bringing back the National Dex” – a device that has all the Pokémon in it –while the games would only allow Pokémon in the Galar Pokedex. With this new expansion, over 100 old species of Pokémon were allowed in the game and four new Pokémon were added.

The Isle of Armor has an entirely new piece of story and lore to it that gives more details to it all. “Isle” also has a level curve, depending on when you go to the island. If you go to the island as soon as you get your starter Pokémon and pokedex, the Pokémon’s levels will be similar to your partner Pokémon’s level. But if you visit after you become the champion of the Galar region, the levels of the Pokémon will be in the 60s and 70s. This way you can enjoy it at any point in the game.

The expansion pass costs $30, which seems a lot at first, until you realize that there’s a second part of this pass. Game Freak is currently working on the “Crowned Tundra” part of this pass, which will introduce yet another new area, story, and new Pokémon.

Overall, the Pokémon community was really happy with the Isle of Armor DLC and is happy with the Pokémon that were added to the game, finally. If you love Pokémon and you have some extra cash, purchase the expansion pass and dive into another part of the Pokémon world.
