THE BEST HALLOWEEN MOVIES THROUGHOUT THE YEARS

Greetings, my goblins and ghouls of mayhem! Halloween is fast approaching, and you know what that means: It’s time to break out the popcorn and PJs for a good Halloween movie at home.

Halloween is personally my favorite time of year, so I take a good scary film very seriously. The way I see, it even the ones that are not so creepy but are more family oriented can still put you in the spooky spirit.

I took the time to stockpile a list of some of what I feel are the best – either chilling or funny – Halloween movies to choose from through the years.

First up on the list is one we all should know because “If there’s something strange in your neighborhood, who ya gonna call? GHOSTBUSTERS!” Now, in my opinion this is a film worth watching even if it’s not full of chills and thrills. It’s a movie you could watch either with the whole family or with friends, a partner, or just whenever you wanna watch a corny Halloween film.

I found it easy to get into and funny throughout, which in my view is a winner because some films tend to have a dry patch or two, but I didn’t see that here. The cast was quick with its delivery and even though the graphics were cheesy, it was still a pleasant movie to end the day with and will probably have you laughing at least a handful of times.

“You’re gonna need a bigger boat.” The cheesy but suspenseful soundtrack of “Jaws” made you wonder what would happen next even if you kinda already had a feeling of what would occur. Though it may feel outdated now with everything (special effects/graphics) being more modernized, it still holds that feeling of nostalgia that comes with any good movie.

Also, its touch of thriller-like elements will not only have your eyes glued to the screen, but the next time you go to the beach, you might just look at the water and wonder, what is down there?

“IT’S ALIVE!” Now, if you don’t know that quote,I’m a bit concerned. “Young Frankenstein” might not be a movie of this generation, but it definitely is a movie we have all heard or quoted from, at least once in our lives.

Though some might feel the film’s black-and-whte attire is outdated and grim, I think it adds mystery and suspense to its character, a comedic spin on a familiar tale. Not only do we, in a way, see the story brought to life through someone else’s eyes, we get a good laugh out of the pure comedic sense of how someone else chose to tell the story we all know. Through hidden jokes and even ones that are practically thrown at you, a laugh will definitely find its way to anyone watching this film.

Now, I know I’ve talked about a few oldies-but still-goodies, but it’s time to see about some options that are a bit more recent.

Honestly, nowadays any movie can start to take on a thrill-and-chills effect if you watch it long enough, because in a way everyone wants to be scared. Whether it’s through a show, a movie or even from a book, we all like being scared by, or of, something.

In “#Alive,” a South Korean zombie film released just this year, we watch a young video game live streamer cope after what seems to be a deadly outbreak of a virus that turns the infected into zombies (though they are nothing like the American zombies we see in our movies) as he is forced to stay in his apartment alone, struggling for survival.

The movie left me on the edge of my seat every second, eyes wide with anticipation, wondering what would happen next. Take my word for it, this is a movie worth seeing if you’re looking for a well-directed film to not only intrigue, but also captivate you.

Next on our list of chills is the 2019 movie “Us.” Directed by Jordan Peele, I found it to be psychologically thrilling in the sense that nothing is what you thought it would be, or how you think it will play out.

Full of turns and hidden meanings, Us feels like the type of movie to make you watch it once, question it, then watch it three more times in order to understand the meaning behind certain things or to uncover context, or possibly even find the twist you might have missed the first time or two. This is a film that plays with your head but will keep you coming back for more.

Finally, yes, I promised I would talk about more recent films – but this one was just too good to skip past.

You know what they say: I just so happened to save the best for last. This is a movie that has been passed on and along, there have been remakes, but sometimes not everything can live up to the original. There are even live showings of the film where you can have an interactive experience you will certainly remember.

I can already hear the “Time Warp” playing faintly in the background and if you listen close enough you will, too… Yes, fair readers, it’s “The Rocky Horror Picture Show”! A movie full of song, dance, and a bit of seduction, it has it all, don’t you think?

Though a bit outdated, the film is still fun for generations to enjoy with its catchy tunes and comedic scenes that will put you in the spirit. Between the seduction of Tim Curry and the musical ensemble of the whole cast, this is a film teens, young adults, and adults of all ages will enjoy.

The Rocky Horror Picture Show is a movie I had wanted to see for a long time. I finally got the chance recently, and as predicted, I loved it. I’m hoping, and pretty sure, others will love it. as well!
