Welcome to the Community

Welcome to the community. We are all in this together!

We at The Advocate are bringing a new focus to the paper, a focus on Community and how to build stronger and more inclusive communities within the whole.

Community colleges are attractors of people who are in transition, people dreaming of a new life. Sharing these dreams can help inspire others in our community in ways that they may never have expected. Perhaps the knowledge that someone is embracing courage gives another person the confidence to do something outside their comfort zone.

Community college is a place where dreams are becoming reality. We are all stories in the making. We have moments in our past and future that inform these stories. The dream of becoming the people we want to be on our journeys. College is also where we come back to when we are in recovery.

The Community Section is where we highlight sub-groups, such as departments, and people who are affecting the whole in their own unique way. We ask questions through polls and interviews to get the pulse on what the community is thinking and feeling about various topics.

We invite you to send in your Cheers and Jeers, and comment about the inspiring things you see the people around you doing.

For example, if you see someone going out of their way to help out our community in an unexpected way, you can send in a “I saw you” cheer.

This section integrates multiple forms of media. As we are out and about exploring the community, we may capture video and audio files that we provide access to online. We also are engaged in negotiations for a radio show, which we will announce when we have something definitive to share.

If you know of a community-focused topic that could use more eyes, let us know. We want to hear from you, as members of our community! This link can be used to send your comments and suggestions for informing us of your thoughts on the community.
