MHCC Foundation Auction kicks off Wednesday

If you ever received a Mt. Hood scholarship or appreciated using equipment at the school or have been the beneficiary of special student funds, then you might want to check out the 2022 MHCC Foundation Auction, which starts online on April 20.

The annual fundraiser for the Foundation that supports Saints students in numerous ways offers various vacations, outings and other goods as prizes for participants.

The culminating MHCC Foundation Auction Ceremony takes place this coming Saturday, April 23, at the Yoshida Haven Estate’s Reception Hall, 29330 SE Stark St. in Troutdale.

The theme for the event this year is the Roaring ’20s and the auction emcee is KATU-TV weatherman Dave Salesky, who attended Mt. Hood. The auction begins at 6:30 p.m. and due to COVID restrictions, the auction is split into both online and in-person, with in-person attendance limited to sponsors and MHCC District Board members.

The online segment begins at 5 p.m. Wednesday and runs through Sunday, April 24. Prizes include items such as a Hawaii vacation, recreational outdoor equipment, wine gallery tours and golf outings.

The auction has been run for 25 years. Judi Charman, Foundation donor relations director, said this year is different due to its hybrid nature, but the intent is still the same: “Bringing the community together.” She noted that next year, things should be back to normal and the auction will be housed at the Yashida Events Center (gymnasium) on campus, which can seat 300-400 people.
