DISNEY PLUS ADDS NEW OFFERINGS TO COLLECTION

Disney has added many new series added to its impressive repertoire with the release of the streaming service Disney+ (Disney Plus). Since its launch in November 2019, Disney has had more than enough time to put out multiple different series and movies exclusive to their new platform.

Among the many noteworthy offerings are “The Mandalorian,” the most recent and final season of “Star Wars: The Clone Wars,” “High school Musical: The Musical,” “The World According to Jeff Goldblum,” and “Stargirl.”

Most recently some notable new series and movies were added to Disney’s streaming service: “Mulan,” “WandaVision,” and “Soul” are, from my standpoint, are three extraordinarily strong and powerful movies and shows.

But I will be focusing on one in particular, in honor of Black History Month.

Soul is a powerful movie based on Joe, a jazz musician who has been working as a part-time teacher and going from gig to gig. Just when he gets the break of his life, he dies, but does not want to go to the Great Beyond, so he tries to run away from it and ends up in the You Seminar – originally the Great Before.

When Joe arrives in the You Seminar, he is confused for a different person and gets assigned to mentor a soul without a life spark. That soul is called “22,” and Joe is trying to help them find their spark so that 22 can give Joe their Earth pass, in return. During their adventure, 22 gets stuck in Joe’s body while Joe gets stuck in a cat, and Joe decides to have 22 stand in for him to try and save his big life’s break. As they suffer through many different problems in Joe’s life, Joe shows 22 how great it really is to be alive on Earth and how to “jazz” in life.

Overall, Soul is a powerful movie in that it reveals how each person, no matter the color of their skin, can jazz their way through life. And while, yes, there are some points in which Joe and 22 have their own problems, they manage to show each other that a person should take life one step at a time and focus on what they enjoy.

Simply put, the story itself shows what soul is all about.
