What’s good, MHCC students! Welcome to the heart of Spring Term, one that I’m hoping is treating you all well.

It’s that time of the year again where the Mt. Hood community (students, teaching faculty, support staff and others) get to show that amazing instructor, whether they’re full-time or part-time, how much they mean to us by nominating them for the Distinguished Teaching Award.

Each academic year, up to three full-time and part-time faculty members (six total) are chosen to receive this award, including a $500 stipend from the MHCC Foundation. (Any instructor earning the award will not be eligible again until at least five years has passed.)

The qualities officials are looking for in the nominees are:

1. Instructors who support students;

2. Instructors who facilitate student learning;

3. Instructors who are knowledgeable and enthusiastic regarding the subject matter;

4. Instructors who exhibit professional skills and behavior.

There also is an opportunity to highlight Mt. Hood’s support staff employees who go above and beyond for us. Admirers can show some love and nominate for an Outstanding Support Staff Award any exceptional classified (non-teaching) support staff employee, including grant-funded and confidential (who directly support administrators) workers, who truly goes all the way in their duties, demonstrating a professional and positive attitude toward MHCC, and who exhibits excellent customer service skills. Nomination forms may be found here for the Distinguished Teaching Award, and here for the Outstanding Support Staff Award.

The deadline for submitting a nomination is 4 p.m. on April 23.
