Naughty by Nature to release seventh album

After 20 years in the game, with such song titles like “Naughty Nation”, Naughty by Nature continues to live up to their name with the release of their seventh album, “Anthem Inc.”, on Tuesday, December 13, 2011.

The trio celebrates twenty years since the release of their first album and this is the first Naughty by Nature release that features all members – Treach, Vin Rock and Kay Gee – since the release of 19 Naughty 9: Nature’s Fury in 1999.  They produce their own music on their label “Illtown” and the album consists of 18 tracks.

Like their hit songs, “O.P.P” and “Hip-hop Hooray,” Naughty by Nature continues to keep a genuine, upstanding hip-hop vibe. Songs such as “Naughty Nation,” “Perfect Party” and “I Gotta Lotta” are good examples of that.

Hit songs from their older albums — Naughty by Nature19 Naughty III andPoverty’s Paradise — are included in their upcoming album. The five re-recorded songs are “Uptown Anthem,” “Hip Hop Hooray,”  “O.P.P,” “Jamboree” and “Feel Me Flow.” These tracks are found at the end of the album.

Although their album includes mostly hard-hitting baselines, and up-tempo music, the trio also manages to bring the reality of the streets into one of their more moving songs, “Flags.”
There wasn’t anything bad enough to leave an indifferent or confused look on ones face, but the only downfall of this album would probably be that the style doesn’t live up to recent club hits. For example, artists like Rhianna, LMFAO, and DJ David Guetta are using more electronic and house music in their hip-hop.

Naughty by Nature carries a throwback feel, which isn’t as popular anymore. “Anthem Inc.”features other hip-hop legends like Joe, Queen Latifah and others. It’s still to be seen if this trio can live up to the reputation they received 15 years ago when they earned the Best Rap album award at the Grammys in 1996.

Naughty by Nature continues to embrace the same authentic hip-hop energy in “Anthem Inc.” as when they first began. Listeners should not be disappointed.
