MOUTHS OF OTHERS

On Monday (March 11) from noon to 1 p.m. in the Visual Arts Theatre, author Julie Murphy will speak at a Mouths of Others event. Murphy has produced several young-adult novels, one of which (“Dumplin’ ”) was made into a film starring Jennifer Aniston, now on Netflix. Several of her novels address teenage years and issues of body-confidence, fat-shaming, sexism, race, and sexuality.

UNDERSTANDING THE PAY GAP, EQUAL PAY

On Wednesday (March 13) from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., the Diversity Resource Center will host “Understanding the Pay Gap, Equal Pay, and the experiences of MHCC, female-identifying staff members in the workforce” in partnership with the American Association of University Women-Gresham (AAUW). The event is free and open to all. It will be focused on understanding existing gender and racial pay gaps in the U.S., as well as Oregon’s equal pay laws. MHCC staff members will discuss their experiences as women in the workforce, and there will be time for audience questions.

SMALL ENSEMBLE CONCERT

On Wednesday from noon to 1 p.m. in the Student Union, the MHCC Chamber Ensembles and Jazz Combos will perform. The event is free and open to the public. For more information, contact Dan Davey at [email protected].

BOARD WORK SESSION

The MHCC District Board of Education will have a work session from 6 to 7:45 p.m. in the Board Room. Items on the agenda are as follows: Tuition and Fees, KMHD Committee Report and Q&A, KMHD. Public comment is not taken during work sessions. Meetings are open to the public.

MHCC CONCERT BAND FESTIVAL

On Friday (March 15) from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., the college will host the MHCC Concert Band Festival. This one-day state qualifying festival for local high school bands will take place throughout campus.

FILM FRIDAYS

On Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., the Diversity Resource Center will stream films honoring and celebrating the achievements of women, as well as highlight prominent issues they still face. Films will be shown each Friday in March near the DRC, and are open to all. For more information, contact [email protected].

ASMHCC CANDIDATE INFORMATION MEETING

On Friday, information sessions for students interested in running for ASG president and vice president will be held in the ASG Council Chambers (at the rear of the Student Union) from noon to 1 p.m., and from 3 to 4 p.m.
