MHCC Forensics Team Complete Successful Fall Quarter Competition Schedule!
In response to the Covid pandemic, the forensics community is adapting by doing virtual tournaments to keep our students safe. It certainly is a different environment but will keep everyone able to compete. We will all look back on this time knowing that the power of the spoken word could not be stopped by a global pandemic!

Lewis and Clark College Steve Hunt Invitation:  In mid-October, MHCC was represented by Austin Schubertwho was a quarter finalist in Senior Lincoln-Douglas debate, dropping in a 2-1 decision to Truman State. Schubert was the only Community College competitor in the field, which also included LD powerhouses Western Kentucky University, and Penn State University.

Diablo Valley College: Two weeks ago, Schubert, Lexi Glenn, Louden Miller and Josh Johnson participated in the “It’s a DVC Thing” Invitational.  The tournament was attended by over 30 schools from 5 states including CSU Long Beach, UC Berkeley, Moorpark College and San Francisco City College. While we had no one advance in Individual Events,Lexi Glenn was a GOLD MEDALIST in Novice IPDA Debate! It as a great way to start our competitive season.

48th Annual Lower Columbia College Dugaw Smelt Classic: This weekend, Miller, Glenn, Johnson and Tosha Arnold participated in the 48th Annual Dugaw Smelt Classic. The young Hoodlum squad took 2nd place in Community College Team Sweepstakes! In debate, while we didn’t advance anyone to elimination rounds – Louden Miller was 7th speaker in the Novice IPDA Division.Lexi Glenn narrowly missed the Novice IPDA quarterfinal break. In Individual Events, Miller was TOP NOVICE in ADS, Tosha finished 3rd place in Novice Informative, Josh Johnson was a Semi-Finalist and TOP NOVICE in Open Impromptu.

This team, while inexperienced – have heart and determination.  Very proud of this group! We will resume our competitive season next month but for now, their focus is performing well on their finals this week!
