RESOURCES AVAILABLE TO STUDENTS ON CAMPUS

The MHCC campus has reopened further for Fall Term, and the Academic Advising center and other helpful places for students are now back open for services on limited hours.

Those days include Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The Student Union and most faculty offices currently aren’t open to students (without appointments) but the MHCC Library also is open 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. Monday-Wednesday. Drop-in visits are available at the student HUB those same hours.

In total, college officials say, MHCC is now open about 33% for this fall term – although virtual (online) student services remain available five days a week.

Winter Term is likely to look similar to this one – with most instruction and many services available online only. By now, it’s familiar to Mt. Hood students, staff and instructors.

“Our team did an amazing job in March last year,” said John Hamblin, vice president of student development, referring to the work of the college in moving classes to a remote model at the beginning of the pandemic in spring 2020.

Meantime, there is a challenge in currently finding part-time employees to keep some services going, he said.

The biggest piece of advice for students most likely is the importance of making an appointment, as academic advising counselors are currently booked a couple weeks out.

The overall goal for this term is to provide both in-person and online opportunities for students, said Hamblin.

The music department at Mt. Hood is one of the few that are operating fully in-person, and it’s nice to hear the familiar sound of instruments playing while walking by. Industrial and auto tech students also are making welcome noise again inside Building 18; Integrated Media students are busy in their assorted labs; and visual arts students are using campus studios again. The Visual Arts Gallery will soon again host monthly exhibits, open to students and staff.
