SAINTS BLOWS AWAY CHEMEKETA STORM

Mt. Hood Community College came out victorious against Chemeketa Community College during the Saints’ last home volleyball game on Nov. 1, winning all three sets, 25-15, 25-21, and 25-15.

It was also Sophomore Night, where the families of the second-year players came to celebrate their time as Saints, honoring each of them individually. After the brief celebration, the game started with Chemeketa’s Emma Hall scoring a point. However, Mt. Hood went into the lead, scoring six consecutive points.

This was a running pattern of the first set. The Chemeketa Storm would score one or two points, then Mt. Hood would come back with four or five points. The set point was scored with Molly McCoy serving and the ball going back and forth with some incredible saves by both sides. That came to an end when Chemeketa’s Sami Scott made an attack error, leaving Mt. Hood winners of the first set.

The second set was a bit more neck-and-neck, while the third was a lot more like first set with a bigger gap in the score.

Overall, the Saints’ performance on the court was very good as they stayed in the lead the majority of time. The back-and-forth of the ball was also a highlight of the match, with both teams keeping the ball in the air and alive for long periods of time. Another thing that stood out to me during this contest was generally great sportsmanship from both sides of the net.

If you haven’t checked out the Mt. Hood volleyball team, there’s still one more match remaining in the season. It takes place tonight, Nov. 3, at Clark Community College across the Columbia River in Vancouver, Washington.
