Song-and-Dance Returns to Mt. Hood

The MHCC Theatre Department Winter Term’s annual musical, “Avenue Q,” runs one more weekend after opening on Feb. 18.

Performances continue this week inside the College Theatre, at 7 p.m. on Friday-Saturday, Feb. 25-26, and at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 27.

This is MHCC’s first musical performed to a live audience in two years, and students are encouraged to attend if they can. The plot even has certain parallels to the COVID pandemic that make the play timely.

“It sounded like a good one, for the time,” said Harrison-Carson, referring to the social distancing between the puppets in the show. “It’s a pretty neat show.”

There are about 20 songs in Avenue Q, which runs about two and a half hours, including an intermission. One thing students and others should be aware of is that there is some adult content in the show. Students and others can purchase tickets at the door, or online at eventbrite.com. Prices are $10 for MHCC students and staff, and senior citizens; $15 for all other adults.

The Theatre Department encourages purchasing the tickets ahead of time, if possible. Proof of a COVID vaccination or negative COVID-19 test is required.

Show ideas for next year’s productions are currently being planned, with more family-friendly shows and other genres considered, said Harrison-Carson.
