Strawberry short course festival

MHCC will host the Strawberry Short Course Festival June 22 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the Gresham campus.

The festival is a smorgasbord of instructional and strawberry-related classes taught by a mixture of professionals, teachers and those who, according to the MHCC website, “just have a passion for something.”

The free event is open to the public and includes complimentary strawberry shortcake.

A sampling of the instructional courses offered include: Jammin’ with Fresh Oregon Berries; Nutrition on Budget; Origami: The Art of Paper Folding; Gluten-Free 101: What is Gluten and Why Do I Care?; Introduction to CrossFit; Botany for Gardeners; Marketing with a Vision; Where Did I Put My Keys? How to Remember the Stuff You Always Forget; Create a Free Website with Weebly; Letterboxing 101; Beginning Mandolin and Basic Russian Culture told through Russian Folk Songs.

Other courses offered cover areas like becoming more Internet and social media savvy, how to plan for emergencies, theater instruction and appreciation, bookbinding and macaroon making.

According to the MHCC website, there are opportunities for volunteers and teachers to help with the event. Anyone interested can visit the MHCC website and click on the Strawberry Short Course Festival link and sign up either as a volunteer or to teach a course.

While on the website, possible vendors can apply to set up vending booths if they sell items that are “grown, raised, harvested and/or produced by or for the local community.”
