A new holiday attraction is coming to downtown Portland this winter season.

“Woodsy Winter Village” is planned to be Portland’s newest pop-up outdoor ice-skating rink and holiday marketplace, as reported by The Oregonian. The City of Portland is organizing the location in hopes to bring more people downtown and revitalize the city during the holiday season.

The attraction is set to be open on Dec. 16 and run through Jan. 28. That means it launches on the Saturday of finals week at Mt. Hood, making it a perfect activity to unwind during our winter break. The Village will be open 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. every day through the New Year, except on Christmas Day. January hours are yet to be determined.

The outdoor ice-skating rink, which can accommodate 120 skaters at a time, will be under a large tent located underneath the west end of Morrison Bridge, next to Southwest Naito Parkway and between Southwest Morrison and Harvey Milk streets.

Tickets to skate cost $20 for adults and $12 for children under age 12. Rental ice skates are included with tickets. Visitors can also pay an additional $10 for a plastic, animal-shaped skating aide named Bobby the Seal.

If ice skating is not for you, there is plenty more entertainment offered by the Village. According to Jimmy Radosta, a city spokesperson, “In addition to ice skating, guests can enjoy food and warm drinks, cozy seating areas, and a pop-up marketplace.”

So, whether you are looking to glide across the ice, go shopping, or simply hang out with friends and strangers alike, consider checking out this new attraction during the holiday season.
