Dance the night away with the MHCC Foundation

The Mt. Hood Community College Foundation’s Annual Auction and Dinner and Dance, “Shake Rattle and Roll,” will be held April 26 at the Red Lion Hotel on the River from 5 p.m. to approximately 10:30 p.m., intended to raise money for student scholarships.

The Auction typically has about 400 participants, not including volunteers and staff running the event, said Al Sigala, Mt. Hood’s executive director of the MHCC Foundation and Alumni Relations.

The items being voted on include beach trips, a cruise to either Mexico or the Caribbean, a trip to Port Ludlow, Wash., that includes golf; a trip to Italy, and a weeklong trip to Africa where the winners will get to experience the native culture and go on a safari, said Sigala.

This year’s auction will have a ’50s theme, so participants are encouraged to dress up in attire reminiscent of the era.

A silent auction will start at 5 p.m. followed by dinner catered by the Red Lion Hotel. Then comes the live auction where the aforementioned prizes will be bid on.

After the live auction, there will be a dancing and music performed by Johnny Limbo and the Lugnuts. “We’re all gonna get together to help raise money for the student scholarships, and celebrate the event with dancing to music,” said Sigala. “It’ll be fun, after the bidding’s over, you can just stay and dance the night away.”

The Red Lion Hotel is at 909 N. Hayden Island Drive, at Jantzen Beach in Portland.
