Adapting something like horror into different mediums (media) can be very tricky – especially if the platform is an online collaborative-writing project.

The SCP Wiki is a collaborative-writing project focused on writing articles using themes of science fiction and horror. The SCP Wiki is a collection of articles made by a fictional secret organization known as the SCP Foundation, which discovers, contains, and studies anomalous items and beings. The majority of articles writtenare about these anomalies.

The SCP Wiki releases everything posted under a creative commons license, allowing anyone to share and adapt anything on the Wiki.

Now comes “Escape from Site 19,” a board game about a group of people trying to escape a research site after every anomaly there broke out of containment. So you, the player, along with a group of friends, must work together to complete tasks and reach the game’s end.

The game is extremely well crafted. The cards are printed on high quality paper. The playing set also comes with custom wooden matches, metal game tokens, a flexible and washable game board, wooden dice, and a custom candle.

Escape from Site 19 markets itself as “an extreme board game” and requires every player to be age 18 or above. It focuses on the various cards a player draws. These cards have tasks each player must complete. The further a player’s game piece moves along the board, the more challenging the tasks become.

These tasks are not for the faint of heart, either. They can range from simply rolling the dice to having to leave bite marks on another player. One task even requires the player to draw a few drops of blood.

If you do intend on playing the board game, I highly recommend you do it with a group of close friends.

This game also requires a role-playing experience. Each player must choose one of the 26 character cards and create a short story about their character. The game will require a player multiple times throughout the session to expand on their character’s story, or to roleplay as that character.

Each playthrough of the game will be different from the others. With around 300 different task cards, participants will be sure to pull different ones each time. Each player can play a different character for each session, as well.

Escape from Site 19 can be a fun way to spice up game night, but keep in mind, it also is not for everyone. If you are going to play, make sure everyone in your group knows what they are in for. ‘
